We all know that diet and exercise are important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle….but that doesn’t mean it’s easy! This is true for both people and pets, which is why Carver Lake decided to create a competition for its staff and for its patients that would encourage them to exercise, eat right, and start 2012 off in a healthy way!
In January of this year, 15 Carver Lake employees and their spouses and 23 of our pet patients joined forces to lose weight, eat right, exercise, and win some great prizes for doing so.
Over the 12 week competition, the staff at Carver Lake worked hard together to get healthy. Some woke each other up at 5:30am to work out, others brought healthier snack to share in place of the normal munchies we enjoy, and during lunches you could often find them walking instead of sitting on the couch. By the end of the competition, each employee had lost an average of 7.58% of their weight!
Our own journey inspired us to create a competition for the patients that come to Carver Lake too. We partnered with Hills, Royal Canin, and Purina to offer registrants the chance to win free weight loss pet food! Over the three month competition the 13 patients lost nearly 20 pounds!
But, a healthy lifestyle doesn’t end when the competition ends. Our hope was that by creating healthier habits over the course of 3 months, we would be setting ourselves and our patients up for more than just a healthier 2012; we would all be on the road to a longer, healthier, happier life!!
