In June, we recieved a call from a nearby family. They stated that a ferret had wandered into their yard. They had trapped it and it seemed tame, so they brought it to us to decide what to do.
This cute little ferret was so sweet, and obviously belonged to someone. As we do with all lost pets, we scanned him for a microchip. We were THRILLED to find that he had one! We immediately contacted the microchip company and were put in touch with the ferret’s owners.

Ferrets
We quickly learned that our new friend, named Arby, has escaped the night before from his home. We were astonished to learn that over the course of the next 15 hours he traveled over 3 miles to the home where he was found! That’s a LONG way for a little ferret to go!
Without Arby’s microchip, it’s unlikely he would have been reunited so quickly, if at all, with his family. Thankfully, they gave Arby a wonderful gift when they chose to microchip him, and that gift sure paid off!!!
Micorchipping your pet is the best way to ensure that your pet finds its way home. Whenever a lost pet is brought into a veterinary office or shelter it is scanned for a micorchip. Collars are a great way of identifying your pet, however if your pet is out in the elements they may lose their collar and identification tags.
If your pet has a microchip, it is important to keep this information up to date so that you can be contacted if your pet is found. You can even enter your travel contact infromation while you are away and change it when you return. This is especially helpful if your pet is traveling with you.
Our pets have a profound impact on our lives. Microchipping them is the most effective way to make sure they return home should they ever get lost. If you have more questions regarding microchips or would like to get your pet microchipped please contact us or learn more here.
