As the weather cools and winter approaches it is important to remember that our pets continue to need skin care even throughout the winter. Routine bathing is an important part of keeping our pets' skin and coats healthy and shiny.
Bathing can be a fun bonding experience for you and your pet. A few things to remember in order to make bathing most effective.
1. Always use a pet shampoo. Shampoo's for humans are not designed for the unique skin and fur of a pet and can irritate them. Check with your veterinarian about what shampoo would be best for your pet. Carver Lake has many options available in many varieties and scents.
2. Use cool water (not cold or hot.) Water that is too warm can irritate the skin.
3. Rinse ALL of the shampoo off your pet. Shampoo residue left on the skin can become irritating.
4. Always use an ear cleaner for pets (available at Carver Lake) following bathing. Water can build up in your pets' ears and lead to ear infections if a cleanser with a drying agent isn't used.
5. Bathing is especially important after swimming in lakes or rivers as the water found in those areas can cause skin infections if not washed off.
6. Dogs with long, curly, or matted fur should visit a groomer. Bathing these animals at home can make matts and tangles worse. You can make an appointment for your pet with Carver Lake's groomer by calling our main number.
Bathing can be done outside with the hose, inside in the tub, and even at various rental areas around the community. Routine bathing is an important part of keeping your pet healthy. They will feel better when they are clean and you will enjoy snuggling with your fresh smelling companion.

Welcome Angel - Our Veterinary Intern from Puerto Rico |
|
Angel is a veterinary intern from Puerto Rico. He began his education at the University of Puerto Rico and gained a Veterinary Technician Degree. Following this he studied Veterinary Medicine in the Dominican Republic and achieved his Doctor in Veterinary Medicine. He is currently studying to take the veterinary licensing exams.
Angel decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after his beloved childhood dog passed away. He decided that he wanted to help animals in the future. He now owns a chameleon, a cat, and a Fox Terrier.
Once he has passes his exams, Angel plans to work for a vet clinic near his home town in Puerto Rico. He would like to practice a combination of traditional Asian Medicine, combined with Western modern techniques.
We are so excited to work with Angel and look forward to learning from his experiences and sharing our knowledge with him. We encourage you to stop by and say hello while he is with us.

Continuing education is an important part of keeping current on new and improved veterinary procedures and equipment. Carver Lake was lucky enough to enjoy a fabulous seminar hosted by Board Certified Surgeon Dr. Lara Rasmussen of Veterinary Surgical Specialists.
This particular seminar focused on bandaging techniques. Dr. Rasmussen's teachings discussed a few main points of bandaging including how to prevent swelling, how to protect wounds, and how to support the limbs of patients recovering from orthopedic surgery.
Our doctors and certified veterinary technicians were able to practice these bandaging techniques with Dr. Rasmussen as their guide.
The veterinary field is constantly changing and improving and continuing education for our staff is one of the many ways that we stay current. |
