Woodbury Days Parade Was a Success!

Flea and Tick Prevention Continues in the Fall

On Sunday, August 28th Carver Lake Veterinary Center and other community members walked the streets of Woodbury in the Woodbury Days Parade.

This event brought together business, organizations, royalty, and government members of the community.

Carver Lake's group could be seen walking their dogs to the music of "Who Let the Dogs Out" playing from their Mustang convertible.  The weather was great and they all had a wonderful time.

The support that Carver Lake received from clients and their pets who watched the parade was much appreciated.  We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

This event made clear what a wonderful community Woodbury is.  Carver Lake Veterinary Center is proud to be a part of such a great group of business and people.

Back to School for Pets

Around the country kids are moaning and parents are celebrating...it is time to go back to school!

What many people don't realize is that going back to school can really disrupt your pets life too.  All summer long they had a playmate to hang out with, snuggle with, and pass the days with.  Suddenly that person is gone for long hours during the day.

This may cause some behavioral changes in your pets.  They may be depressed and sleep a lot, or they may react by getting into trouble that they never did before.

There are ways to help your pets deal with these changes.  More than anything they probably miss the time that they spent with your children.  You may need to give them some extra attention during the day.

You could also talk with your children about how the pets may be feeling.  Encourage them to spend some extra time with the family pets in the evenings and on the weekends.

One of the best things to do to keep your pets occupied and out of trouble is to send them back to school right along with the kids!  This is a great time of year to enroll yourself and pets into an obedience class.

Even the best behaved dogs can benefit from some additional training.  Most obedience schools have classes for every type of dog.  You may want to brush up on basic obedience, or maybe your dog has the energy for agility or flyball.  There are even acting classes for dogs!

Regardless of what you do, be sure to pay special attention to your pets as your children head back to school.  This can be a stressful time for the whole family, including the animals.  With a little extra love you can help them make this transition an easy one.

As fall begins and the weather cools down it is easy to forget those pesky parasites that bothered us and our pets all summer long.

It is important to remember that fleas and ticks continue to be a nuisance to ours pets long into the fall.  In fact, as the winter months get closer fleas are often looking for a warm place to spend the cold season.  Your pets make a very inviting home for them.

The cooler months are some of the most common times for pets to bring flea infestations into your home.  These infestations are not easy to get rid of!  Ticks, some of which can carry Lyme disease  are certainly no stranger in the fall either.

To keep your dogs and home free of fleas and ticks we recommend using either Frontline or Advantix.  For cats, monthly doses of Revolution with help keep them protected from fleas.

These products are all monthly, external applications.  In order for them to  work effectively they should be applied at least 24 hours prior to any swimming or bathing.

Make sure to keep your pets, family, and home safe and parasite free this fall by continuing to use your flea and tick preventative until the snow is on the ground for good.  This may mean using it well into November or December...you never know in Minnesota!
