10 Years of Being "Your Other Family Doctor"

Dental Health Month

Welcome Home Baby Evie!

It's hard to believe that Carver Lake Veterinary Center is 10 years old on February 1, 2006!  My how we've grown.

We began in our wonderful location with four acres of protected wetlands and beautiful wildlife such as ducks, geese, and deer.  We also see the occasional fox or coyote pass through.  Many birds, varying from Red-tailed hawks to Downey woodpeckers, are seen daily.

Carver Lake Veterinary Center was built from the ground up to include lots of space and natural light.  Even the operating room has a window!

In the beginning, the clinic was operated by Dr. Kate An Hunter and a single veterinary technician.  Since then, we've grown to a staff of eighteen, including Dr. Grant Gugisberg, Dr. Kim Ammann, and 5 certified veterinary technicians.

Throughout the years we have proudly watched some employees finish their educations within veterinary medicine, and others get married and start families.

We continue to work closely with the Humane Society for Companion Animals to provide medical care to pets looking for new homes.  We also assist the wildlife community with voluntary service on animals including rabbits, squirrel, and wild birds.

Over the years we have updated our computer system to provide you with more efficient service, created and maintained this website to keep you informed on current pet related information, and
in 2002 Carver Lake was certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA.)  AAHA  is a voluntary certification setting high standards for veterinary medicine.

In our tenth year, Carver Lake Veterinary Center will continue to grow with new AAHA certification standards, new equipment for treating dental disease, and the latest in education for diagnosing and treating all companion animals.

Over the last 10 years we have met over 5000 pet loving clients.  Our thanks to all of you for being a part of Carver Lake Veterinary Center and including us in the care of your pets. We are looking forward to the next decade as your other family doctors

North American Veterinary Conference

Dr. Kim Ammann and Practice Manager Julie  attended the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Florida, January 6th-11th.

The conference brings together thousands of veterinary professionals from around the world!  There are seminars and hands-on classes that run all day to help the attendees stay current on changes in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Ammann attended lectures on dental care, rabbit procedures, AAHA standards, and avian topics.  Julie chose classes on customer service, and team management.

Carver Lake Veterinary Center believes that continuing education seminars are imperative in providing you and your pets with the best possible care.  We have committed ourselves to being "your other family doctor" and take that promise very seriously.  We understand the love you feel for your pets and have made it our life goal to do everything we can to keep them healthy and happy for life.

Can you imagine how it would feel to not brush your teeth for months?  Well, that is how most pets feel.  Dental care is as important for pets as it is for people.  Periodontal Disease can lead to larger problems such as tooth loss, heart problems, and major infections.  In order to prevent these problems watch for the following signs of periodontal disease.

  • Bad breath
  • Yellow-brown crust on teeth
  • Red or bleeding gums
  • Tooth loss
  • Abnormal drooling
  • Change in eating or chewing habits

If you notice any of these signs you should bring your pet in for a dental health evaluation.  Visiting your veterinarian is the first step to better oral care for your pets.  The second step is to start an at-home dental care routine.

There are several things you can do at home to help your pets maintain healthy teeth and gums.  Brushing is the best form of defense.  Be sure to use a toothbrush and toothpaste designed specifically for pets.  Oral rinses are also available and help to prevent infections.  Finally, there are treats and food that are good for your pet's teeth.  All of these products are available at our clinic.

Your pets depend on you to provide them with the best care that you can.  By taking care of their teeth and gums you are preventing more serious problems and helping them stay healthy and happy.  Make an appointment anytime during the month of February for your pet's dental health evaluation and let our staff show you how to brush your cat or dog's teeth successfully.

On Wednesday, December 21st, Technician Kelly and her husband Brian, welcomed their first born child, Evelyn Rae, into the world.

She weighed 7lbs, 7oz, and was 21 inches long.  She already had a full head of hair - we think it looks red like her daddy's!

Evelyn, affectionately nicknamed Evie, has been keeping Kelly and Brian very busy.  Although everyone is adjusting to the changes around the house (including the pets) they seem to be settling in very well.

Carver Lake is so excited for the new family and wishes them the very best as they start their life together.  Evie is a very lucky girl.  Not only does she have 2 of the best parents, but she has a huge extended Carver Lake family that loves her very much too.

We are so glad you are finally here Evie!

Fur Bowl Fundraiser a Success!

On Saturday, January 21st, The Humane Society for Companion Animals hosted their annual cosmic bowl-a-thon.  Carver Lake's team had a wonderful time bowling and raising money for the shelter.

Out team raised over $350 to help homeless animals!  Because of the amount we raised Carver Lake was awarded the "Cosmic Cat" certificate, which goes out to teams that raise over $250.  We want to thank all of our families, friends, and clients who joined us at the event and/or donated money.  We really appreciate all the support.

We all had a great time and look forward to it every year.  If you would like to participate in future events please watch for information on the Humane Society for Companion Animal's "Bark in the Park" that takes place in early May!  We will have information on our website in April, or you can also contact Julie here at the clinic for more information, 651-578-3290.  We would love to have you join us!
